No kidding?? That’s huge news! Honestly, thank you so much for letting me know!
How familiar are you with the process? Can I ask you if my line qualifies? If so, this is what it looks like: Me -> F -> GM -> GGM. My GGM was born in Canada, GM born in the states in 1935, GGM naturalized in 1942.
I’m very familiar with the Italian citizenship by descent process, so I know the edge cases around that, but not for Canada. Are there any hidden exceptions that would disqualify someone with my line? They happen a lot for Italy.
Honestly, I’m so glad you made this post! If this works, I’ll need to thank you from the bottom of my heart!
When I read about this a few weeks ago, there was a requirement that my GM needed to have lived in Canada for 1,095 days to show a cultural connection. Is this no longer a requirement?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My mom says that people who don't have "value" don't deserve to live and that "depression" is just an excuse for laziness. What's is your rebuttal for it?
0·6 months agoHomie, what you deserve is ‘better’. I feel for you

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•[Trigger Warning: Suicide]... Parents, how would you feel if your child died by suicide?
0·7 months agoI see you around here a lot. I feel a great draw to try to soothe your torment but I never know how. I always wish the best for you
I’ve known a few people who lost their battle, and their families are never the same. It stays with you. On holidays, birthdays, life events. It’s been over ten years for me and it’s still there nearly every day. I know they have thoughts like
- “I wish you were here Travis, you would have been my best man”
- “I wish you could see the view on this hike, Katie. Happy birthday”
- “I wish you could see me graduate, dad. I hope you’d be proud of me”
One of these people inspired her mother to her own thankfully unsuccessful attempt. It ripples out in ways these people didn’t consider
BUT I also have friends, one very close, who survived their attempts, and are grateful they did. Two of them just got married to incredible people. It’s still there for them, but it’s gotten much smaller, and they’re living legitimately very happy lives. They went back to school, graduated, married, and have plans to travel the world
Each of them who lived got help. Big people in coats put them in a place and gave them magic socks. You say it makes it harder to emigrate, but to not mince words, so does being dead. I’m guilty of the same thing - letting a big consequence prevent me from acting on an even bigger consequence. But every day I’m sad about the people who died, I’m so incredibly grateful to the people who asked for help. I would be lost without the one, especially
I wish the best for you on your journey, and I hope to continue seeing you around here
I’m so sorry. That’s my greatest fear in life, and you’re living it. Reading this, seeing the parallels between your sister and mine – it’s too real. I can’t let that happen. It scares me so much. I’m so sorry. I hope you can heal, both for your sister and for your own depression. I’m glad your family keeps you anchored, and I hope you find a way to keep your nephew in it. He probably needs someone like you.
Sending love from a stranger~
Thanks for taking the time to reply! :)
For a clueless person like myself, do you have any advice on how to make that happen? I see @SreudianFlip@sh.itjust.works say dumpster dive, but how would you know which places to patrol, and when?
(Btw Sreudian, if you see this and you’re ok with dropping the local requirement, I’d love to pay for shipping for one of those macs)
I’m really sorry, OP. I have no words of wisdom. I just know it hurts, and I’m sorry

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•As a US citizen who was born in the UK, how risky is it to leave and reenter the US right now?
0·1 year agoGotcha, no problem, just a miscommunication :) Yes, DL 36/2025 is all about citizenship by descent, jure sanguinis. That’s the new decree that has changed things recently, preventing many people from claiming citizenship. It’s still possible that residency could be added as a requirement on top of parental ties, and in fact it has been for minor children beyond grandchildren.
I’ll be watching how it all plays out along with you. Good luck on your journey!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•As a US citizen who was born in the UK, how risky is it to leave and reenter the US right now?
0·1 year agoVaryk is correct, the cnn article has errors. Currently there is no language requirement in DL 36/2025, and the only residency requirement is to live there for 2 years before the birth or adoption of a child to pass citizenship on, if your parents weren’t born there. DDL 1450 is a proposed amendment that, in part, would allow minor children to fulfill the 2 year residency themselves, and (I believe) if they are no longer a minor, 3 years
Here is an english translation of DL 36/2025. The actual text of the decree is near the bottom

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone know where I can find more songs like this?
0·1 year agoCool track! Thanks for showing it! I wish I had a better answer with a clear hybrid like yours rather than a change of style, but check these out: Malenia, Blade of Miquella, from the game Elden Ring, and then a synthwave arrangement of it

I know I would love to join that community! I’m still unfamiliar with most of the story, but I’d be psyched to join!

I got partway through the trailer and decided I needed to pause so I could experience it fresh. It looked too good! I can’t wait!
