Pardon my stupidity BUT why include stdout to Devnull? Why not omit and simply ‘du -sh /home’

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Recommended mini pc for a homelab?English
1·12 days agoWhile these points are valid, I feel for a homelab, one would want a headless system running *nix vs OS X.
Also, it doesn’t help that there is no bootcamp for ARM, least not that I’m aware. Because if that was the case, then yes running ARM64-based distros/software would be great. I’d actually love to see how the M1 runs ARM server software :)
Never thought to try that out! I use “YouTube enhancer” for Firefox which IIRC allows you to hide Shorts, among other QoL offerings!

2·29 days agoI had one 2 netgear WiFi AC routers that failed back to back, tho the first one ran for 10 years without trouble. When it died, the replacement was just… Awful. A direct downgrade in every aspect. Performance, wifi coverage was gARBAGE , it would reboot constantly, and the management ui was Fisher Priced to death. I got the Dream Machine BC it was on sale and they were about to roll out the new Dream Router. Never looked back.

16·1 month agoEveryone in this thread is complaining about their short-lived UniFi devices, meanwhile I have two dream machines (the original WiFi 5 sol’n, not the rack mounted variant) that have had zero issues and are still running 24/7. I guess I should count my stars. (They replaced multiple failed netgear routers).
No, I think Jenga’s a game…

Canada@lemmy.ca•Why They Don’t Want You Driving a Chinese Car
0·2 months agoAgreed. Touchscreens are such a safety hazard. The idea of having a bloody oversized iPad controlling everything in your car is an absolutely shittastic design.
My current car has a stupid 7 inch touchscreen and its bright af even at the lowest bright/contrast settings. Yes it has dark mode. Yes it’s enabled at nighttime - which is when I do most of my driving - and YES it’s still wayy too fuckin bright. So i have it display off perma, no need for that shit to distract me whiel im driving.
Fortunately the touchscreen only controls radio, media, and settings. HVAC and other mission-critical shits are relegated to tactile buttons and knobs. Additionally, the steering wheel has media controls and other buttons, which basically make the touchscreen useless as the wheel does the same crap as the screen, except it doesnt blind me at night.
Unfortunately, it’s getting increasingly more difficult to find a car that doesn’t have this junk built-in, unless you get a used car from the mid-to-late 2000s or even the 2010s. (And then you have more shit to worry about, but at least its all mechanical vs computer in nature!)
Can’t believe I had to scroll down this far for this.
