“Generic Democrat” always does better in polls than any “Actual Democrat”. Dem voters conduct annoying purity tests on most candidates and love to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in order to feel good about themselves.

Anyone who uses the phrase “purity test” has completely failed to grasp the situation. It has nothing to do with purity tests, and the phrase is itself a cultural smear used by establishment Democrats against progressives.

There is no minor nitpicking going on of one issue here or there. There is a gaping divide in the party between the corporate establishment and the vast majority of the Democratic base.

I have found a lot of people unnecessarily internalize propaganda. Purity tests, wokeness, white knighting, bleeding heart, etc are all terms that are meant to disparage people. Unfortunately, because of the ubiquitous nature of these words and phrases the people who they are meant to disparage adopt these terms themselves to their detriment.

I personally don’t think people should use these terms at all as they just give credence to those who use them to discredit people who are actually doing their best to make things right. These terms are beyond cynical and are actually very misanthropic in nature.

In the case of the Democratic establishment, this is exactly the meaning they intend to project. They just want to be able to deny it at the same time while getting well meaning normies to unthinkingly repeat the disparaging rhetoric against progressives.

Here’s a great primer to some of their other vocabulary of choice.

Because for almost a year now the DNC has been taking all the money Hillary/Biden/Kamala stole from state parties, back to the state parties.

Who have been using the funds to work at campaign staffing levels we usually only see for a few months before election.

That outreach is working, and no one should be surprised.

It’s just the goal of neoliberlism is a neoliberal president and at most either the House or Senate. If/when they get it all, they have to make up excuses for why they’re not doing what they said they’d do.

It’s like when an athlete bets their team will win, but not beat the spread…

Sometimes they end up losing the game by trying to keep it close. But their motivation isn’t winning games, it’s hitting the sweet spot where they get a bunch of unethical money

Until Citizens United is overturned and campaign finance is heavily restricted by Congress, another Democrat administration will simply ratchet themselves further to the right and serve the same oligarchs the Republicans do. Very little will change to improve the lives of ordinary people, and once again the Republicans will use that to take full control in the following cycle.

Until Citizens United is overturned and campaign finance is heavily restricted by Congress,

No, the party runs their own primaries and they can regulate them however they want.

The DNC and any state parties can get stricter on PACs, which would get a good candidate to the general. Where they wouldn’t be handcuffed by the restrictions in the primary.

You don’t know what you’re talking about, which wouldn’t be a big deal if the misinformation you’re spreading wouldn’t result in lower voter turnout.

Not true at all. Every well-conducted and reliable poll matters, because it determines where campaign money will be spent, where volunteers will be directed, what stops candidates make, and what issues to press on and which to pivot back to stump on.

Pretty dumb myopic take you have there, actually.

No, I think it’s the only correct take. Otherwise people get complacent. I don’t give a shit if the Democrats’ margin is large, it needs to be larger next November to counteract Republican ratfuckery. If Democrats are not ignoring this poll and managing this as if they are really 8 points down, they’ve already lost.

This is the way. People need to show up in overwhelming numbers to the midterms, this time. It’s the only way to effectively counter Trump’s agenda. Democrats need to have the power to not only reverse course on what he’s doing, but also to remove him from office and prosecute every last mutherfucking one of them.

It worked during Bush’s 2nd term when the Senate and the House were blue. The opposition was strong enough to stifle Bush from being too out of control.

The damage may still continue and have been done, but, we need to stifle and slow this nightmare train down somehow. The mid-terms it has to be.

The argument is “Data may cause people to behave in ways I don’t want them to, so I will assail the data to guide people to behaviors I do want.”

Like, I can understand and respect your position, but I don’t think it’s the only correct take.

I think that the structure of your argument is also used broadly by many groups to do terrible things. One can debate the merits of fighting fire with fire, but let’s at least do so with complete awareness.

I’m reminded of a recent debate about fixing ICE, where someone said “What do you mean, fix them? They’re working as intended.”

To me, the Democratic party evokes a similar problem: I believe their goal is to maintain between 40-60% popularity. So, the champagne is uncorked at 40, not 50; because they don’t care about winning. They just care about people being scared of a loss, and viewing them as a strong-enough alternative to send them massive numbers of donations. If they were below 40, then people might lose hope in them or form an alternative. If they were above 60, then they could stand to cozy up to some corrupt billionaires, get away with some horrible legislative corruption for profit, and stand to drop a few points.

But the key here is, all of this only works because of fear of a far, far worse alternative. I’ve voted in elections where I had reasonable faith that every candidate on the ballet wanted the best for their constituents, and voted based on policy improvement and experience. As long as one party is so far below the basic standards that a corrupt career politician seems better if he can promise “No secret police”, then the Democrats’ way of maintaining 40-60 is easy.

So, next time they run a candidate that gets a “failure” of 45% of the vote, remember, they’re not your friends and they don’t care; they hit their goal. It’s still a failure of people that voted for a wolf in wolf’s clothing.

While I believe that this is accurate, as a broad stroke and specifically of the DNC itself, any individual democratic politician is not necessarily corrupt and playing a foil. Especially as you get more and more local.

Don’t let cynicism prevent you from voting for a local candidate for mayor or city council, for example. It’ll take time to see if Mamdani is what he claims to be, but it’s not unreasonable for someone who is mad at the current situation to run for office with a real intent to improve things.

The way we fix things is by getting the local orgs to throw their weight around. Those precinct orgs get votes in the district and district vote in state and state vote nationally. If you’re mad right now or were mad in 2020, then get involved. Find your local democratic organization and become the change. Under our Representative Democracy, we don’t always directly elect our leadership, but we do get to elect the people that elect the people that elect the people… Gotta start at the bottom and ensure that first step has our values in mind. Right now, too many people only get involved every 2-4 years and are mad at the results.

“President” and “Senator” are important titles, but so is “County Chair”. Doing this and pushing the Democratic party further left will be more effective than sending a protest vote for a third party every 4 years, but you can do both.

I’ll agree with that. A nice way of summarizing, in my eye, is: If you pictured your civilly responsible, experienced neighbor deciding to run for office to fix the state or the country, which political party do you think they’d join?

Even if you believe an entity like the Democratic Party to be profit-driven and corporate, you can still pull what useful value you can from them where they’re behaving correctly.

Nope. First of all, the Trumper tactic is always to overturn the game-board. They don’t give a shit about goalposts. Second, the goalpost was “line up and support Mamdani” which you actually moved to “endorsed Mamdani” which is not the same. Their endorsements were nothing more than concessions. It was last-minute realignment to position themselves to benefit from the win, or at least not suffer as much embarrassment. It was never support.

As it turns out, boycotting Kamala in 2024 and surrendering the whole country to fascism did jack shit to move the party left. Just like 2016.

Almost as if the only way to get progressive dems in office isn’t surrendering to Republicans in November, but voting for progressives in the primary.

You can stop voting for prick in the Dems who 100% are corrupt as fuck, just because they are dems.

The party will only listen, once YOU and all those like YOU stop voting them in to power. The likes of Nancy fucking Pelosi, who suckering you all over 38 years. Feinstein, over 32 years. Schumer, over 26 years. The list goes on and on. Corrupt people, who put party and donor interests before the people. And you all keep voting them in.

Really, though, it says a lot about how shitty the democratic party is that the headline says “since 2018” instead of “since the beginning of time”. Trump is a disgusting, rancorous idiot. Everything about him is vile, from his appearance to his voice to his tiny reptilian brain. The fact that the democrats came in second to this human shitstain strongly suggests that the must have, oh i dunno, badly and repeatedly disappointed the american people.

Maybe they could shit-can their entire leadership and get behind someone like Mamdani. Or just disband and make room for a new party.

The Republicans can’t be trounced, because they control the active implementation of the oligarchs plans. They either directly implement them if in power, or they signal those directives to the Democrats, who continue to implement the same plans, but in a passive way. They work in concert in this manner, but they must be continually seen to be in a legitimate contest for the ploy to work.
